ABC confirms eight-minute performance by Janet at AMAs

Television station ABC aired a commercial tonight announcing that the American Music Awards will be kicked off with "eight minutes of Janet Jackson."

The awards show airs live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on ABC on November 22 at 8:00 PM EST.

Can you dispatch a vampire with a martini and cigarette smoke?

"Mad Men" writer-producer Marti Noxon has been hired to pen DreamWorks Studios' revamp of the 1985 horror comedy "Fright Night." Before her work on AMC's "Mad Men," Noxon was a writer-producer on the bloodsucker series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," so fangs and stakes are in her blood.

Producers Michael De Luca, Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig set up the "Fright" project in May. DreamWorks executive Mark Sourian is overseeing for the studio.

The original "Fright," released in 1985, was written and directed by Tom Holland and starred Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall and William Ragsdale. Ragsdale played a teenager who discovers his neighbors are vampires.

The new version will keep the comedy-horror tone while modernizing the effects.

The WME-repped Noxon also has been a writer-producer on ABC's "Private Practice" and "Grey's Anatomy" and Fox's "Prison Break."

Darkening things up as the winter season nears, Ashlee Simpson showed off a snazzy new jet-black hairdo while out in Beverly Hills on Wednesday (November 11).

Giving a big smile for the paparazzi as she strolled along with a gal pal, the “Pieces of Me” singer was out for a visit to a local medical building for a doctor’s checkup.

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport, police confirmed on Wednesday, after he was reported to have punched a photographer.

Police said the troubled 43-year-old had been detained following an altercation at the airport's terminal seven.

No further information was immediately available.

The Los Angeles Times reported on its website that the boxer, who once styled himself "the baddest man on the planet" was held after an "altercation."

Local broadcast reports said Tyson had struck a paparazzi photographer.

***This post contains spoilers for the new issue of BATMAN, which hit stores today***

Y'know, when it was announced that Tony Daniel was going to be writing BATMAN, I steeled myself for whatever might come. I thought about how he made Jason Todd go completely out-of-character, turning him irrevocably evil for no reason in BATTLE FOR THE COWL, which already seems to be sorta-ignored by Grant Morrison's current BATMAN & ROBIN storyline (which I have problems with for different reasons, but whatever).

As such, I really hoped to be able to weather the imminent crapfest that was sure to be Tony Daniel's current run on BATMAN, taking it in stride when the first issue brought in Mario Falcone and thereby made THE LONG HALLOWEEN and DARK VICTORY canon. Whatever, I can deal with that. It's no biggie.

And then, in his second part, this happened.

Due to illness, singer-actress Kristin Chenoweth, celebrated for her role as Glinda the Good Witch in “Wicked,” has canceled her performances this weekend with the Cincinnati Pops, the orchestra announced late Wednesday.

Megan Hilty and Julia Murney, who have played the signature roles of Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, in the Broadway hit musical will step in to sing “Wicked Divas,” a program of Broadway showstoppers with associate Pops conductor Steven Reineke and the Pops.

The concerts are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in Music Hall.

Due to the change in headlining artist, exchanges will be offered through the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra box office at Music Hall with no fee.

Patrons must visit the box office prior to the concert for which they have tickets, or call (513) 381-3300.

The box office is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and two hours before each concert performance.
